Sometimes
the words
overflow
like the cliche
of the cup
that is
doing
just
that
they roll right off
my tongue and escape
out into the air
where they can
inspire
advise
offend
insult
be misconstrued
or
totally understood
Sometimes
the words
rush around
bouncing
inside my head
against each other
against my brain
against my life
wanting
trying
needing
to get out
Sometimes
the words
sit there
resting
waiting
simmering
deciding
amongst themselves
which are worthy
which are right
which are precise
But
sometimes
the words
have had enough
they are done
spent
exhausted
useless
and they flicker
until they are
blown out
Love this!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful. The talent in the 5 for 5 is blowing me away, I have no words ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this! I want to go back and re-read and let your words simmer...I am loving this momalom challenge. So many great finds! I will be back to read more of your words.
ReplyDeleteI like how you shaped your words here, like they're always going through a funnel - which is pretty much what we do in our head all the time isn't it? The constant filtering and funneling?
ReplyDeleteSo many terrific images here, Liz. My favorite is your candle metaphor at the end. (Sometimes I wish my two year old's words would flicker more and rage less.) :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes the words we read are so amazing and perfectly constructed that there are no words with which to respond. (For instance.)
ReplyDeleteI love it when you poem. xoxo
